What to know before restoring an old item
Something you own is worn, broken or tired, and you want it back instead of thrown out. A few steps make the job go better.
Do not try a quick fix first
Glue, harsh cleaners and paint from the hardware store can make a restoration harder later. If the item matters to you, leave it as it is until someone has looked at it.
Keep every piece
If something has broken, keep all the parts, even small chips. Original pieces are often the best way to put it back together.
Know what matters to you
Think about what you want from it. Do you want it to look new, or to keep its age and character? Do you want to use it again, or display it? Telling us helps us plan the work.
Take good photos
Photos of the whole item and close-ups of the damage, in good light, give a useful first look before you bring it in.
Ask before anything starts
Ask what will be done, what the options are and what it will cost. Our estimates are free, and nothing starts until you say yes.
